Peer Recovery Coach

My name is Alex Montoya, and I was born and raised in Denver Colorado. Growing up in a single-parent home, I was surrounded by drug addiction, physical and mental abuse, alcoholism, and incarceration. Without proper guidance, I fell into the same destructive cycle, leading to multiple stays in juvenile detention centers before ultimately serving 12 years in prison.
While incarcerated, I made a life-changing decision: to break the cycle and become the best version of myself. I committed to my growth by joining Narcotics Anonymous (NA) and Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), earning my GED, and completing five vocational courses along with eight self-help programs—many of which I later facilitated to help others.
Since my release, I have maintained my sobriety and dedicated my life to giving back. I work with individuals still incarcerated in the Department of Corrections and Department of Youth Corrections, as well as anyone struggling with substance abuse, stress, mental health issues, lack of resources, goal failure, or relationship challenges. My mission is to be a source of hope and guidance for those searching for a way forward.
(My certifications include Recovery Coach Academy, Ethical Considerations, Professionalism, Mental Health First Aid, Intimate Partner Violence, and Coaching in Justice).
